Calumet City Public Library Summer Reading Kickoff With Live Animals!

On Friday June 16th, the Calumet City Public Library is kicking off their summer reading program. The event features animals from around the world by Incredible Bats. This is exactly like it sounds… the group is bringing to the library an animal from every continent around the world!

Incredible Bats is dedicated to education and is well known for their animal advocacy. Attendees will be able to see and in some cases pet sugar gliders, hedgehogs, birds, turtles, snakes and of course bats.

The event is designed to promote the Library’s summer reading program. With summer upon us, it is imperative for children to continue learning and reading is an extremely beneficial activity. Those young students who read recreationaly tend to perform better when school resumes. Literacy is fundamental to long term success.

The library’s summer reading program is particularly innovative. Run in the form a bingo game, young readers will receive a bingo sticker for every book they read during the program which runs from June 16th to August 11th. There are multiple prizes along the way with a grand prize drawing for a family pass to Six Flags Great America being held on August 11th.
