The Calumet City Library is excited to announce that we are participating in the Reimagine Youth Development Program!
Illinois’ youth and families face a staggering array of economic demands and social challenges that have worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic: devasting health concerns, lack of employment, education loss, mental health issues, social support disruption, and increased family and community violence. The RYD is designed to provide young people with safe environments, including including out-of-school programming, and caring adults to guide them toward educational success, to empower them with the social and emotional skills necessary to forge paths of healthy development and disengagement from high-risk behaviors.
The Library is partnering with Champs Male Mentoring Program whose mission is to Educate, Empower, and Expose Boys and Young Men of Color beyond the four walls of the school in order to help them to achieve their dreams and goals. Participants will be attending sessions here at the library. The schedule will soon be announced.
In addition, we are also partnering with “The Support Group,” which has been positively impacting youth across the Chicago-Land area for 75 years. TSG operates 8 programs, 46 schools have been served, 109,000 youths have been helped and 75% have graduated high school. Program participants can attend the Tim Hardaway and other events.
