Welcome to YOUTH SERVICES ! Our goal is to instill a life-long love of libraries, books and reading in all children from infancy through twelve years of age. We try to do this by providing a variety of educational and informational materials and programs throughout the year. Along with basic collections of fiction and nonfiction books for children of all ages, Youth Services materials include: - Parent Shelf Collection for adults and children. - Pamphlet File containing current topics of information. - Magazines for children and young adults. - Picture Files are free and may be kept for school assignments. - Toddler Collection for newborns and youngsters through two years of age. - Audiovisual Collection consisting of videos, dvds, compact discs, cassettes, cd-roms and kits. - Young Reader Area which houses Big Books and puzzles for library use, special popular collections such as Barbie, Disney, Barney, Dora and Caillou books. Youth Services offers a variety of programs for children all year long. - Library Tours are given for Calumet City Brownie Troops, Girl and Boy Scout Troops, and visiting classrooms from Calumet City schools. - Children's Book Week is celebrated in November and National Library Week in April, with an array of special programs. - Regular storytime sessions for 3-8 year olds and Tiny Tots for infants through two year olds are offered at various times during the year. - Craft programs are planned in conjunction with most major holidays and seasons of the year. - There is an annual Summer Reading Program that attracts hundreds of children. We hope YOUTH SERVICES meets all of your
library needs. Please ask for assistance and we will be happy to serve
you. |
