The CIRCULATION DEPARTMENT handles all Library transactions related to the checking in and checking out of Library materials. This amounts to more than a quarter of a million items annually. We issue Library cards to both residents and non-residents. There are currently more than 21,000 Calumet City residents holding active Library cards! LIBRARY CARDS are issued free of charge to any Calumet City resident, upon demonstration of proof of residence. Applicants must show 2 pieces of current identification with name and address, one of which must be a photo ID. NON-RESIDENT CARDS may be obtained by people who live in surrounding communities for an annual fee. Call the Circulation department for further details. Our LOAN PERIODS are 2 weeks for books, pamphlets, audio cassettes, encyclopedias, periodicals, compact discs, CD-ROMS; 7 days for educational videocassettes and DVD’s; 3 days for all other videocassettes and DVD’s. RENEWALS may be done on home computers, in person or by telephone on all materials (except videocassettes and DVD’s) for which there are no renewals. RESERVES may be places on all items by home computer or by filling out a request form. The patron will be notified when the item is available. Reserve books may be picked up at the Circulation Desk. FINES are 10 cents per day for all overdue print material, 25 cents per day for audio material and CD ROMS, 25 cents per day for material obtained through Interlibrary Loan (ILL), $2.00 per day for videocassette and DVD's, and $1.00 for failure to rewind a videocassette. LOST/DAMAGED MATERIALS are assessed at the current retail price of the item plus a processing fee. |
