POLISH HERITAGE MONTH During October we salute Polish Heritage Month. Please stop by the Adult Services Desk to pick up a brochure listing Polish Heritage fiction and nonfiction books and audiovisual materials, many of which have been donated by Alderman Gerry Tarka and the Polish-American Heritage club. Look for the Polish artifacts Alderman Tarka will be providing in our special display case. K – 9 UNIT Officer Kraus of the Calumet City Police Department will join us for a program on Thursday, October 4, at 7:00 PM to explain how the their K – 9 UNIT is formed and the special role it plays in local law enforcement. Open to all ages. DIGITAL BASICS – CAMERA MEETS COMPUTER CANCELLED A Digital Basics – Camera Meets Computer class will be offered on Saturday, October 13, from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM. Instructor Nicole Muhs will offer information on equipment basics, uploading, editing, and storing photos, and printing features. Virus scan software? Unwanted pop-up ads? Secure passwords? File protection? What does it all mean and how can you protect your computer system and your personal information? Richard Gast, Calumet City Public Library Technology Coordinator, will review the related terminology, identify issues and questions to be addressed when setting up computer security, and provide an overview of the latest options in software. This program will be held in our Technology Training Center on Thursday, September 20, at 7:00 PM. Seating is limited and registration is required. NAVIGATING THE MEDICARE MAZE Please join us on Thursday, September 27, at 6:30 PM, for Navigating the Medicare Maze presented as part of a BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois “Service in the Neighborhood” program. Community Relations Specialist, Tamatha Smith, will expain the basics of Medicare and the choices available in an easy to understand manner.
